What is coaching and how is it different from other professions?
While therapy is oriented towards the past, towards solving emotional issues involving your family history, coaching is present and future oriented, is action based and functions on the belief that the client needs no fixing and is naturally creative, resourceful and whole.  While consulting and training involve instructing a specific agenda, coaching involves holding the clients agenda – asking instead of telling.  In other words: the coach is the co-pilot, you steer the ship.

What happens in an average coaching session?
An average session generally involves checking in with how you are currently, any news that you would like to share, how progress went on your goals from last week, what you would like to focus on this week, general discussion and exploration of new issues through questioning, mirroring, reframing and sharing observations, supporting you to inquire into your deeper motivations, asking you to envision solutions that work for you and would make you happy, committing to actions for the week that feel good to you, wrapping up with a summary and confirming our next meeting.

What goals can I work on?
Anything you like!  Material, physical, intellectual, emotional, spiritual!

What kind of clients do you work with?
I am open to working with a wide variety of people and appreciate anyone with an inquiring mind and sincere heart who wants to make a difference in the world.  I get along with a variety of people in a many different settings: martial artists, meditators, massage therapists and body-mind practitioners, athletes, intellectuals, psychologists, musicians and artists, business people, teachers et al.

Why should I hire a coach?

  • “I value reflecting on my life and setting goals.”
  • “I value personal growth.”
  • “I want to become aware of my own psychology so I can change self-defeating patterns in my life.”
  • “I want to get in shape and change my diet.”
  • “I want to have more conscious relationships and resolve conflicts.”
  • "I'm having trouble balancing my work and my personal life"
  • "My co-workers (boss, clients, etc...) are driving me crazy"
  • "I know where I want to go, but I have trouble getting there"
  • "I want to use more of my skills, but I don't know where to begin"
  • "If I just had someone who could hold accountable to myself, I'd get so much more done"
  • "I'm going thru a big career transition in my life"
  • "I can no longer get myself going in the morning"
  • "I'm thinking of going into business for myself"
  • "I have trouble getting myself organized"
  • "I never seem to have enough money"
  • "I'm too busy with responsibilities"
  • "I need a new direction in my life"
  • "I just don't have time for fun"

How long are coaching commitments?
Coaching commitments may be as long or short as the client desires.  They are generally a minimum of 3 months and can go on until certain goals are met or can be ongoing for general wellbeing like seeing a massage therapist or going to the gym.

Why is coaching becoming so popular?
Unlike therapy which implies that something is wrong with you, Coaching is a sign of a conscious, creative, and committed individual and combines reflection and action to produce real results.

How do I get started?
If you would like to pursue a coaching relationship with me, please email me or give me a call and we can set up a time to meet to explore the possibility of working together.  If we both feel we’re a good match, I’ll email you my intake forms and we’ll set our first meeting.  It’s important to have a great connection with your coach, so if something is lacking on either side, I’ll be happy to refer you to someone I think would be right for you.

Feel free to send an email to ask a different question.
